The “buy or don’t buy” questions on everyone’s mind, which will hopefully be answered in the near future as release dates etc are announced:
Will your release of Project A-Ko use the same video source as the Central Park Media “remastered” release (a laserdisc)? Or is it a new transfer from a Japanese source?
Will the 999 movies include the English dubs?

Great news about the Project A-Ko film. I will be picking this up once it drops. Thanks for the great news.

I ruv you guys. Other suggested Toei rescues, pleezu: Arcadia of My Youth, Midnight Eye Goku, Baoh, and if Voyager’s not doing anything with ‘em, the Yamato movies and shows. [Or, if that don't work out, maybe you could cut some sort of distribution deal with them?]

Nice pickup with the Galaxy Express movies, Discotek! Hopefully you guys can just keep grabbing more vintage Toei anime, and maybe a couple of their more recent animes as well; Saint Seiya TV and Ring ni Kakero 1, maybe?
Also, it would probably be good if you guys can give the Princess Blade movie a “Lady Snowblood” subtitle, as more people defintiely know the title under that name than under “Princess Blade”. Just a thought.

You know, I was thinking earlier today that Discotek should license-rescue Project A-KO. Who knew that my random thought would turn out to be a premonition?
Rather than heap on a ton of other suggestions (like many other posters here will likely do), I’ll just say “You guys rock!”. I look forward to seeing both Galaxy Express 999 movies as well.

N/M. Baoh’s from Toho, but you managed to get Fuma, so it’s still game.

When can we expect Galaxy Express 999 movie & Adieu Galaxy Express 999 movie to be released on DVD?
July 28th, 2010 at 5:35 am
Thanks for the Galaxy Express 999 but I wish to hell and back that it will be dubbed.

It’s Great that you guys got these licenses,
but for Project A-ko should go straight to Bluray, as most of us have gone through 2 incarnations of DVD for this title, what can you promise yours will be better?
as for Galaxy Express and Adieu G.E. they should go Blu as well, as a double feature like Funimation did with the Clamp movies, should be stellar in 1080P

FANTASTIC NEWS!!!
Well done guys, you are proving yourself to be the true saviors of old school anime!!
I have one question/request though, do you intend on releasing any of these new titles on Blu-ray? I live in Japan and can’t play R1 DVD’s but BD’s on the other hand, work perfectly!
Project A-Ko is no longer available over here so I’m praying that you guys can bless us with some Blu-Ray releases too!
Viva la Discotek!!

Aww snap.
I don’t buy anime that often anymore, but these are three classics that I will be happy to pick up on day one. Us fans have been lobbying to get GE999 on DVD in the states for over a decade now, so thank you guys so much for doing it.
You Rule!

By licensing the Galaxy Express movies, you guys are officially the best anime licensee in the U.S. I’ve been waiting for more than ten years for these, so thank you.

Don’t know what happened to my original post, guys, but once again I say great pickups with the Galaxy Express movies! Here’s hoping for more great surprises from Discotek!

I am very happy that the Galaxy Express Movies will be made available in region 1! It would be great if you could also obtain the license for the Galaxy Express TV series. A lot of people in anime forums seem to wish it as well. Other works by Leiji Matsumoto such as Queen Millennia, Galaxy Railways 2 and Submarine Super 99 would also be great.

I have a friend that will VERY excited that Galaxy Express 999 and its sequel will be re-released in the US.
August 2nd, 2010 at 2:28 am
BTW, will the movies have the Viz dubs? I actually liked those.

Is there gonna be a release date for Sea Prince And The Fire Child anytime soon?
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:25 pm
Any chance of there being a box set release of the original Captain Harlock series? I’d buy that in a heartbeat.
August 3rd, 2010 at 10:46 pm
likewise very excited about the galaxy express movies getting a proper R1 release. (would the series be too much to hope for, i wonder?)
you can’t have too much leiji.
August 4th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
I’d like to see Harlock Saga get rescued myself.

I love you guys. I must suggest some wonderful anime movies that are craving a bilingual US release: Dog of Flanders (1997 anime movie originally licensed by Geneon/Pioneer), Ringing Bell (aka Chirin no Suzu). These titles are wonderful and they deserve a bilingual DVD license! Please, Discotek, at least take them into consideration. I’ll be super duper happy if you license and release them!
